How Can We Help?
It can be overwhelming to find a provider; there are so many places to choose from, and if you have never been in counseling before, you don’t know what to expect, what to ask, or even what to look for to help you find that person that can help you become “you” again. Relax…you’re here…and that’s an awesome start!
Start by looking over the bio’s of our providers and see if any of them stand out to you. You can also call us at 701-297-7540 and one of our intake coordinators will ask you some questions to help match you with the best therapist for you.
While waiting for your appointment, you will be sent a link that has all our opening paperwork and forms to fill out.
During your initial session, your provider will ask you more detailed questions about your background and history and what brought you here today. Once they know you better, they will work with you to create a treatment plan. A treatment plan is like “Google Maps”, it can show us where you are now and where you want to be when we are done. It can also help us identify the “roadblocks” that have gotten in the way of getting there in the past. Once we know all that, we can find the best way to get you to where you want to be.
Often, that is through something called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Basically, that means we will help you understand the ways that your thoughts affect your feelings and how your feelings affect your behavior. Changing what you FEEL often starts with changing how you THINK. We will help you to challenge those negative thoughts that run through your head….because depression tells lies. Depression might tell you that you are stupid, that no one loves you, that no matter what you do you will never get better. We know that this is a lie. You might not know that yet, but that’s ok, that is what we are here for. We will help you challenge these negative thoughts with more realistic ones, when you start to do that, you will begin to notice you feel better, and when that happens you will begin to notice you are doing things you used to do, things you have missed doing, things that make you feel like “you.” It doesn’t happen overnight…..but it does happen.
